February 16, 2012

Congratulations Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming at becoming our Natrona County Prevention Coalition’s February Member of the Month!!!  Representatives from the BGCCW have attended every monthly NCPC meeting during the last 6 months.  Over the last year, a BGCCW representative has participated on Environmental Strategies and Policy Change Sub-Committees.  The BGCCW also participate in our community outreach events such as: NCPC at the Calvary, NCPC at the Ghosts and the Annual Elf Shop.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming’s mission is: Inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.  Since 1969, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming has been a community-based organization that provides young people with a fun, safe, and constructive environment when they are not at home or school.  Boys & girls Club offer programs and services designed to build character and strengthen life skills.

When asked why the BGCCW participates with the NCPC, Director Ashley Bright says,  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming believes in the networking opportunities through the Natrona County Prevention Coalition.  We have been greatly supported through the coalition’s efforts.  It is awesome to serve with great professionals and volunteers who have great concern for our young people.”

The BGCCW have many accomplishments under their belt.  They have recently doubled their learning center capacity and are now serving 70 kids a day just in the learning center.  They also opened up the Susie McMurry Technology Center in November.  Ashley reported “There are days where 90 kids have signed in.  Our Clubs have been recognized nationally for its accomplishments in tech programs.  Clubs have increased their average daily attendance.”  The staff at BGCCW are at work in our community!  They offer after school programming in five Natrona County locations; Evansville, Paradise Valley, Mills, Verda James and the main club.  They also offer summer programming in Mills, PV, Evansville and Main Branch.  AND their teen program runs M-F year around!

Ashley also has a long list of upcoming events for the BGCCW, he reports “BG Club’s Wyoming State Youth of the Year selection will happen on Feb. 21st.  We will be breaking ground on the new Dick and Lynne Cheney Cowboy Ethics Youth Center in late May.  We are part of the team that is releasing “The Try” movie on Feb. 27th, 28th and 29th.  Our Wyoming High School American Dream Essay Contest’s banquet will be held on April 15th.  We have a celebrity/golden glove boxing show coming in April.  We have a Partnership Breakfast on March 23rd.  Staff Appreciation Celebration Day in late April/May.  Foss Motors Golf Tournament on June 1.  Our 14th Annual Awards and Recognition Breakfast will be slated for August.” Thats a mouth-full!

The NCPC staff want to thank the Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming for the amazing work they do.  Our community would be at a huge loss without you!
